It’s been a number of years now, but sorry, unless you have had the great privilege and rare opportunity of experiencing end-of-the-line confinement at a maximum-security prison, you simply would not understand that, rightly or wrongly, Abbott ‘s response was instinctive, forged over time under incalculable stress. The only surprise here is why there have not been many more such cases. It would be interesting to hear what his widow has to say…
